Sentimental Sunday: Rambo

Sent Sun Graphic_edited-2 I’ve been blogging for almost 6 years. That’s a lot of great and not so great moments documented. I main reason I blog is to remember these times… good and bad.   “Sentimental Sunday”, is when I link back and remember posts I’ve written in the last several years.

Instead of Camping… (Part I)

In early August, we had planned to meet Marc’s parents halfway between us and them to go camping.  However, as many of you know… camping is a LOT of work.  We opted just to drive the extra miles and visit them… and sleep in an air conditioned home… in a bed.

We had a really nice visit and Marc’s sister and family came down from MN to see us.  It’s so great when the boys get to play with their cousins.  Grandma and Grandpa even let the kids “camp” in the camper overnight both nights.

I’m not sure G&G slept much, but the kids thought it was the coolest!

Marc was able to visit with some of his buddies and we were able to take the kids to G&G’s gym to swim!

First Day of Preschool!!

image

Monday morning was AJ’s first day of preschool.  He was very excited – counting down the days for the last week.  He was even very concern about what shirt he was going to wear the first day… finally settling on a fishing shirt.  (It was between that and a Vikings shirt – he make’s his Father proud).image

The morning started out with pictures, pancakes with candy sprinkles, and lots of goofiness. He was wound up this morning.

(Hence the “dancing with backpack” shot to the right).

After dropping Andrew off at school, we did a little grocery shopping before heading to school where he met up with his buddy, Noah.

imageHe was excited to see his teacher, find his cubby, and turn in his homework.  He even got a name tag to wear around his neck and a name card to hang up on a board.  Very exciting.

When I picked him up, he was wearing his crayon crown…. and for the life of me I couldn’t get a great picture of him with it on… this one is the best I got.

We then went to the library with his buddy, before coming home for a special made to order lunch… a peanut butter sandwich cut in four pieces, four pieces of salami and four apple slices… because he’s four of course.

A Boatin’ we will Go

imageA few weekends ago, we were able to get away for weekend with some friends. It was no small feat pulling it off, but we were able to head north without the kids.

With two other couples, we rented a lake house and pontoon boat on Indian River.  We then spend the days traveling Northern Michigan's Inland Waterway.

The Inland WaterwayDay one we went through the channels and Mullet Lake all the way to Lake Huron. Day two, we headed through Burt Lake  and channels over to Pickerel Lake.

We went through two locks, a drawbridge, and a swinging bridge.  The weather was surprisingly great. I say this because it threatened to rain the whole time, yet pretty much held off for us. Plenty warm, without frying us…. too bad.

The channels were very interesting to travel through and the lakes were huge. Of course, the men had to tube once we hit those huge lakes.   The weather was so calm, they even tubed on Lake Huron.  That’s not something you can do just everyday.

The guys even got brave and attempted a few tricks on the tubes.  Some worked well… some… not so much.

imageWe even saw an albino deer while traveling through one of the channels.  They were full of wildlife.  I think Marc was seriously kicking himself for not bringing at least one fishing pole.

We pretty much brought food and drinks on the boat and came in at the end of the day for a late dinner before heading to bed.

It was a really great, super relaxing, and very memorable weekend.

First Day of the First Grade

image

Have you heard, Billy Joe McGuffrey by Chris Rice? We were rocking it out this morning on the way to the First Day of the First Grade.

The day started out with Andrew sleeping right through his alarm clock.  And the thing is, is that I wasn’t even going to set his alarm clock… except that he wanted me to set it.  He wanted to get up all by himself, turn it off, get dressed and meet me downstairs for breakfast.

Fortunately, I was already up and at ‘em and just woke him.  He got right up and ready right away and had two chocolate chip pancakes, with peanut butter in between for breakfast.

imageWe finished up packing a few things for his lunch and hit the road nice and early in order to find classroom, meet the teacher, drop off class supplies, etc…

Of course, as soon as we got there, he immediately saw his buddy on the playground on the walk in.  From then on all he wanted to do was get back out on that playground.  I made him find his room and desk, say Hi to his teacher and pose for a picture or two before turning him loose on the playground.  So funny how a year changes things.

After school, we met his buddy and classmate, CJ, for Frosty’s to see hear all about the First Day of the First Grade.

Feeling the Same way…

image The boys are tucked in bed. Tomorrow starts the madness (and somewhat sadness) of back to school. I've been threatening them both that I would just keep them home with me another year and they can go to first grade (Andrew) and preschool (AJ) next year.

They've rejected that idea and couldn't be more excited for class to start.  Denise of Life with Four Boys… Coffee Please!, another local mom, wrote beautifully how I’m feeling better than I could….

The Day Before School Starts Blues

Let the whirlwind begin...

And he’ll Grow, Grow, Grow…

The other day, Marc was getting the boys all cleaned up.  They were in the shower and he asked them if they had washed themselves and were ready to get out.  Andrew responded that he was, however, AJ proclaimed that he wasn’t through “watering himself.”

Happy Labor Day!

Before we get completely engulfed in Football…

imageimage We recently started football practice. Rocket Flag Football practice for both boys… with Coach Dad.   Between school starting next week and football practices and games soon taking over a good portion of our time, I thought I’d better get the final shots of our last sport, T-Ball up and posted.
