The other day, after work, I picked up the boys and surprised them by taking them to the airport for lunch. This is something we used to do quite often, but with our new busy schedules… this is the first time we’ve done it this year. Little sad, huh?
I really enjoy our airport observation area. It’s the perfect place for a picnic (or drive-thru) and there is plenty of room to run in between take-off and landings.
(Andrew had a run-in with some stairs earlier that day – hence the band-aid across his face)
Not that I am telling you this from personal experience, but be careful if you take a ball or Frisbee to play with. The wind could catch a well-kicked ball and place it over the barbed wire fence with large “No Trespassing” signs all over it. Because if that happens you just might have a very sad little boy or two.
However, you just might have a very nice man on a bulldozer drive by, and you just might be able to flag him down and a ball that you thought was gone forever just might be back in your arms before you leave. And it just might be an afternoon with a happy ending.

So fun kel. I've head about this..but not sure where the area is located. How exactly do you get there?
Hey there. To get to the Airport Observation Area take Patterson Ave South to 52nd (or 54th, there's only one, I just get them mixed up). Head east on 54th/52nd to stop sign. Turn left and it dead ends into the observation area. There are picnic tables and room to run. But caution, there is only one pretty yucky porta-potty, so go before you leave. :)
